Corpal supports those affected by Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum which means that the major pathway across the two hempisheres of the brain is damaged or missing. Corpal is a Not for Profit group and is run by parents, and carers of children and Adults with ACC or Aicardi Syndrome.

Story

I am running my first marathon in ages (since having the boys) to raise money for a small but meaningful charity very close to our hearts - Corpal.

The why ... written by Finley's dad -

Did you know some people are born without the part of the brain that connects the left and right hemispheres?

I didn’t, until a 37-week pregnancy scan showed that our third child was missing his corpus callosum, along with other brain malformations. The condition is called ACC.

The prognosis? He’d be born with at least two of the three major disabilities. And there was a 40% chance he wouldn’t live past age 10.

At 37 weeks pregnant, we were given a choice no parent should ever have to make.

The grief was overwhelming.

Then we found Corpal, a tiny charity, run entirely by volunteers, with a very small budget. But what they gave us was priceless.

Corpal helped us understand the medical information. They connected us with other families. They gave us hope.

We later learned that based on a small study in the National Library of Medicine, 43% of pregnancies are terminated after a diagnosis like ours. And many of those decisions are based on outdated or overly negative predictions.

In reality, thanks to the support and insight we gained from Corpal, we now know more. And Finley, our wonderful, hilarious, cheeky boy is living proof that life after an ACC diagnosis can be full of joy and potential. Yes, he’ll need extra support (Corpal help with this too!). But he’s already a huge source of love and laughter in our lives and the lives of everyone who meets him.

If you can spare a tenner...seriously, even £10, could fund Corpal’s helpline for an entire month. That could be the month another family hears the news we once did, and needs someone to talk to.

Thanks to everyone who has already donated, we can already run the helpline for almost 3 years or fund 30 face-to-face consultations, but we could do more!
