Great North Run 2025 · 7 September 2025 ·

The Williams Syndrome Foundation was formed in 1980 and is run by parents for parents of children with this rare condition which causes heart and kidney problems and learning difficulties. It desperately needs funds to finance its ambitious research and family support programmes which include national conventions and regional meetings.

Story

My son, Thomas, was born with Williams Syndrome. Myself and Megan, who is Tom's aunty, are running the Great North Run to raise money for the William's Syndrome Foundation.

Thomas had open heart surgery as a new born at just 3 days old and has had lots of health complications along the way. He has recently had a high risk procedure at Great Ormond Street, where a stent was placed into his very narrow decending aorta to create a better blood flow to his kidneys and reduce his high blood pressure. His surgeons were very happy to tell us that his procedure was a success and he is now recovering well. As a by product of his condition, regular procedures and check ups are likely to be on-going throughout Thomas's life.

The William's Syndrome Foundation have provided our family with a great deal of support over the past few years and we would love to raise money to be able to give something back to such a great and deserving charity.
