PBC Foundation provides vital support and information to those affected by Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC). Our services include our helpline, regular publications, regional support groups, and the education of medical practitioners. We also support research into finding a cause/ cure for PBC.

Story

My friend Laura and I are taking on this year's Glasgow Kiltwalk to raise money for the PBC foundation who are a charity close to my heart.

Around this time 9 years ago, I was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cholangitis - PBC for short. It is an autoimmune disease that affects the liver; there is no known cause and unfortunately, there is currently no cure. The disease is rare, with only around 3% of the UK population diagnosed, yet the symptoms are severe and debilitating. Living with PBC can significantly affect your quality of life and has a major impact on mental health.

My symptoms and the deterioration of my liver meant that I needed a liver transplant, and luckily in 2023, I was granted that gift. However, due to the nature of PBC, I may never be completely in the clear as it could begin to affect the new liver. This journey has shown me how crucial it is to raise awareness about PBC and support those who are affected by it.

I am hoping to raise funds for The PBC Foundation to ensure their amazing work continues to be acknowledged and funded. They help countless individuals and families navigate their diagnosis while informing as many people as possible about this condition. Participating in the Glasgow Kiltwalk on April 27th, 2025, holds special significance for me as it marks the two-year anniversary since I received the call that changed my life.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If you can donate anything—whether it's £2, £5 or £10—it will be greatly appreciated and will do wonders to continue supporting and improving the lives of those suffering from PBC.
