Story
My average step count so far in 2026 has been 691 steps per day. That is roughly 0.4km. Total.
So, naturally, I’ve decided to walk 25km (that's about 60 days worth of steps.. in one day..)
"WHY, GIRL?!" you might be screaming at your screen right now. Trust me, my legs are asking the same question. But here is why I have to do something radical: our local community needs radical support.
Following the recent census, the ward I live in right here in Bicester was flagged as a high-risk area. Because Oxfordshire is generally seen as quite affluent, the hidden health and social inequalities right on our doorstep often get completely masked. To figure out what was really going on, a Community Insight Profile was commissioned, and the data it uncovered is heartbreaking:
• 53% of households experience significant deprivation.
• Emergency hospital admissions for children under five are nearly double the county average.
These aren't just abstract numbers - these are my neighbours, and wee ones in our community who need early intervention, safety, and a fair start in life.
This is exactly where Lifehouse steps in.
We are already on the ground doing the vital work in Bicester and across the Cherwell Valley to intervene and support people when they need it most. We have a proven track record of making a real, tangible difference right here in our area. Beyond crisis management, we focus on building strong, lasting social networks so everyone can find a community where they belong.
But we can't keep this momentum going without funding
Going from 691 steps a day to a 25km walk is going to hurt, but it is nothing compared to the daily hurdles those in poverty face. I don’t like exercise, but more than that, I don’t like the idea that wee ones on my street need help and there aren’t enough resources to help.
I know things are tight, but if you could spare a fiver, or even just some healthy vibes, it would be hugely appreciated.
Now I probably should practice standing up..
