Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.

I am taking on my first ever ultra-marathon in September 2025, raising money for Berwick Cancer Cars, in memory of my mum, Gillian Ainslie.

Recently, my family and I marked the five-year anniversary of my mum's passing after her brave an inspiring battle with cancer. Not a day goes by without her in my thoughts and as I prepare to embrace fatherhood in July (yes, 2 months before the ultra), I find myself thinking of her more and wishing she was around to provide her wisdom and comfort.

She was truly one of a kind, and her strength and positive spirit are profoundly missed. I will carry her memory with me when heading out for long-training runs already sleep deprived....

I am excited for another challenge and opportunity to raise money for this amazing charity.

Background on the charity:

https://berwickcancersupport.co.uk/

Berwick Cancer Cars provides free transportation for cancer patients living in Berwick & District, ensuring they can attend their cancer-related appointments at regional hospitals and access specialised treatment further afield.

The organisation is entirely volunteer-run and relies on the compassionate support of the community to sustain its vital services.

"In 2024 our team of volunteers assisted 223 clients. With a total of 1,366 hospital runs our drivers covered a distance of 145,782 miles."

The work of these volunteers has made a significant and valuable difference to the lives of others. The Queen's Award gives national recognition to extraordinary acts of voluntary service and the accolade is only given out in exceptional circumstances.
