From the Mersey to the Trent...long distance walk
I am not a great walker, BUT- in July I am walking 120 miles in aid of Hope in Action . This is a small charity offering help and encouragement in practical ways to families and children in need. They work with the poor and marginalised, the hungry, the disabled and those with minimal opportunities and limited access to health care and education. Hope in Action stands with them in their struggle against discrimination. They work alongside families to help break the cycle of poverty and restore self worth (www.hopeinaction.org.uk ).
I would be very grateful if you would consider sponsoring me?
The walk is from Runcorn to West Stockwith, starting on Monday 10th July and completing (all being well) on Thursday 20th July. Its roughly 120 miles and will be divided into about 12 miles a day.
It starts in Runcorn by the Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal. It will follow the course of the Bridgewater Canal until it reaches the Mersey again in Sale. The route will then follow the Mersey to Stockport. From there I will make my way through Bramhall to the Macclesfield Canal and then to the Peak Forest Canal before heading to Hayfield. There are parts here where the route traverses the Goyt (a tributary of the Mersey).
From Hayfield the route will take me across the Peak district including:
Edale Cross, Brown Knoll, Mam Tor, Lose Pike, Hope, Win Hill, Bamford, Stannage Edge and on to Sheffield.
From Sheffield I will pick up the "round Sheffield path" to Rother Valley.
From Rother Valley I will then be able to access the Chesterfield Canal which will take me through Worksop and Retford, ending up in West Stockwith on the River Trent.
Thank you so much for reading this. As Tesco says “every little helps”.
One hundred percent of all I raise goes directly to those in need.
