Help Me Endure My First (and Only) 10K for Under the Stars

Despite my phobia to running I’ve entered into a 10K running event. I’m doing it for a cause that’s deeply close to my heart: Under the Stars.

I have the good fortune of being the Lead Arts Practitioner at Under the Stars, a remarkable disabled arts charity here in Sheffield. We create work that goes beyond mere performance. Our plays and productions, hosted in venues throughout Sheffield carry weight and resonance. They’re not only critically acclaimed but often touch on the essence of human experience—connection, identity, and expression. Under the Stars works hard to challenge the way society views people with learning disabilities.

However, Under the Stars isn’t just about theatre—it’s about unlocking potential. We believe deeply in the creativity and talent of our participants, offering workshops in music, drama, and dance. Whether it's through live performance, the magic of recording, or the joy of our club nights, we give people a platform to express themselves and to be heard.

Since 2010, we’ve been working with over 100 individuals every week, creating an inclusive, supportive environment for them to thrive. Through partnerships with local artists, musicians, and schools, we connect with the wider community, giving voice to those who are often unheard.

This work transforms lives, but it requires funding to continue. And that’s where this run comes in. I’m doing something well outside my comfort zone but it’s worth every step to support the often ground breaking work we do at Under the Stars.
