Ayrshire to Beatson · 30 September 2023

We are Ayrshire’s leading cancer support charity, providing free practical and emotional support for people affected by cancer. Our services include patient transport to hospital, professional counselling and complementary therapies, in our centres, at home or in a hospital setting.

Story

Hello!

I have been involved with Ayrshire Cancer Support in some shape or form via my work for almost 10 years. Currently, they are a client of Scarecrow and one that we're honoured to be associated with.

Despite not being from, or even having any family from Ayrshire, the A2B challenge speaks to me massively. It represents the first thing I learned about the charity and speaks to the cornerstone of how Ayrshire Cancer Support (ACS) came to be and how it still delivers vital services to people who need them every single day.

In short, ACS offer volunteer drivers to people in Ayrshire, living with cancer, to attend vital treatments at The Beatson Centre in Glasgow.

Fortunately, I have never had to travel to, or foot the bill for either receiving, or just travelling to receive critical healthcare. However, there are many who are not so fortunate and I am sure benefit from the companionship and support as well as they do from being able to receive the treatments.

As with everything in life, but mainly fuel, the price has gone through the roof recently which is making it increasingly difficult, but simultaneously increasingly important, for ACS to continue to offer their services.

I will be cycling 200+ miles throughout August and September to represent a series of return journeys between Ayrshire and The Beatson and will top up the total funds raised with a donation from the company as well.

I'd appreciate any donations, support and awareness raising of the amazing work ACS does as a relatively small local charity which helps hundreds of people and their families every single day.
