Stephen’s ride home into retirement

Cry in the Dark started in 1998. In 2000 it opened a home for 24 children with special needs in Comanesti Romania. Casa Lumina is a home for life, where the young people are treated with respect love and care. Our second project in Romania is Hospice Lumina (Childrens Hospice) Based in Bacau.

Story

Update - June 4th

We completed the ride yesterday with Three of us ( Stephen, Michaela and Christian) doing the whole 179 miles (Including an additional 8 miles due to a closed bridge!) and Oskar and Isaac doing 120 miles between them.

Many thanks to all the people who have enabled us to smash our original fundraising target. Every donation will make a difference to Cry in the Dark and the people that they support in Romania and Ukraine.

Thanks especially to Mark Reynolds and Mace Foundation for their donation and to Steven Taylor at Milton for the Support vehicle!

We will keep this page open for a few weeks in case anyone feels the urge to give more!

And thanks again!

On June 1st ,2nd and 3rd 2023, Stephen Pycroft will embark upon (what he claims will be) his last charity cycling challenge.  As he eases himself into the quiet life of retirement in Yorkshire to be close to his family roots, what better way to mark this by cycling across his home county with members of his extended family. Stephen will be joined by his partner Michaela, his son Elliot(maybe!), his great nephews Isaac and Oskar and their dad Christian, in cycling 171 miles between Morcambe in Lancashire, and Bridlington in Yorkshire, passing through the spectacular Yorkshire Dales, the historic cities of Ripon and York and the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds.  The challenge aspect for Stephen is in leadership rather than his cycling ability as he supports, cajoles and encourages the other riders who are either much less experienced cyclists than he, or total novices who are massively out of shape (in Christian’s case)!  The work has already started! Like previous rides, this one is in aid of A Cry in the Dark, a British based charity that works in North-Eastern Romania with a vision “to put Christian love and compassion into action by reaching out to children and young people of any race, creed or faith who are marginalised by poverty, sickness or disability.”  This is a charity that Stephen’s niece Lissa (who is also Isaac and Oskar’s mum, and Christian’s wife, as well as being our support crew chief)  has supported and worked with for many years, and who has seen first hand that huge impact every penny of donations can make.
