Story
London 2026
As a committed member of The Salvation Army at Southampton Sholing Corps I am looking to raise funds for the continued expansion & development of our community outreach work. The Church has identified a gift for hospitality and is running food programmes (Food Cycle) & a Community Café. The latter was established following the 2015 Boundless Congress where my wife and I, the Café leaders, responded to the challenge from then General Andre Cox to reach outside of your comfortable halls to your community. The Café offers a range of hot food and snacks at affordable prices, kids eat free, and provides a safe place for sometimes vulnerable people, families and friends to meet.
The opportunity to participate in the 2026 London Marathon to raise some funds for the community provision is amazing. A much needs overhaul of the kitchen facilities is long overdue. Your support, however big or small, is immense, thank you!
The Sholing Salvation Army Community Café serves as a warm, open space for locals to gather on the first and third Fridays of each month, offering hot food and friendly company at affordable prices. Rooted in the Salvation Army’s wider mission of community care and connection, the café counters social isolation and brings people together over simple shared moments. Throughout the week, the venue also hosts FoodCycle Southampton on Wednesdays, providing free hot meals and inclusive fellowship to anyone in need—no booking required. Both initiatives embody a spirit of welcoming and support, creating both routine and something to look forward to in Sholing’s local calendar. By combining a genuine welcome with practical relief, these community programs strengthen social bonds and offer tangible hope in challenging times.
