Story
Six years of running for SpecialEffect means at this point it’s basically a Christmas tradition. After last year’s chaotic effort and a long stint on the sidelines with injury, I’m back… un-fit, under-prepared and fully aware this year it is going to hurt.
The challenge is simple: 5K every single day through December and January. Rain. Sleet. Sideways wind. Hangovers. Whatever winter throws at me, I’ll be out there clocking the miles.
SpecialEffect’s incredible work is what keeps me lacing up. They bring inclusion, independence, and joy to people with physical challenges. Making video games accessible to all, giving a voice to people in critical care, and connecting medically isolated children with classmates and friends through their telepresence robots. It's proper life changing stuff, and I am proud to be an ambassador.
Every year, your support carries me through to the finish line. It gets me out of the door at 11pm when work’s taken up the day, makes the cold, rain-soaked miles feel a touch warmer (if not drier), has me running round airporrts during a layover and makes every single run worth it.
But you play a part. In fact you are vital to the success of this challenge! If you’re able to donate, share the page, or drop a bit of encouragement, it genuinely helps.
Let’s make this the biggest year yet and help SpecialEffect bring even more joy where it’s needed most.
