To walk the Northampton Rounds and an additional walk · 2 September 2024

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and 15 September is World Lymphoma Awareness Day. Let’s talk lymphoma together and raise awareness of the UK’s most common blood cancer.

Story

Lymphoma Action is the UK’s only charity dedicated to lymphoma, the fifth most common cancer.

We’ve been providing in-depth, expert information and wide-ranging support for over 30 years, helping thousands of people affected by lymphoma. Our work drives improvements in the diagnosis, treatment, and aftercare of lymphoma.

We’re here for everyone affected by lymphoma. https://lymphoma-action.org.uk/

Lymphoma, not a word I knew not at all. Since December of last year my Sister, and Owen's Aunty has been in Hospital diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma.

We have undertaken 2 walks so far, for our friend Nigel, we raised enough to send both him and his wife on holiday. Nigel is paralysed from the neck down.

Last year the Children's National Deaf Society, we raised awareness having had a profoundly deaf grandson, join the family.

This year it's Lymphoma, such a debilitating disease. Aggressive in the brain, especially. Michele's journey feeling unwell and gradually losing balance, she was admitted to Kettering General Hospital on the 8th of December 2023. From their to Oxford for a biopsy on the brain, CNS Lymphoma was the diagnosis. Returning to Kettering (big shout out to Lilford ward) 4 bouts of Chemo was the structure under a system called matrix, with a stem cell transpant as part of the 3rd bout. Bout 1 a period ensued in HDU where a DNR was placed on her. The 3rd bout arrived and a decision was made that no transplant would take place. To week to survive, what i believe and have been told is an horrendous operation. Potential ultimate cure, unachievable at this stage.

Radiotherapy, cant be offered right now, as a potential to slow down the cancer. So rehabilitation is where we reside at the moment. Corby community hospital. Still fighting, such determined strength the lady has, she is still there and it's time to share.

I didn't know people went in to hospital for this length of time. I know from past family history, how much pain, true pain a body cant take and this girl has taken a lot.

Please donate to this cause and raise awareness to this particular form of cancer

Myself and my son Owen have completed the walk of 51 miles of the Northampton Rounds, over 4 days starting on Monday the 2nd of September on the 5th day we'll add an additional distance to arrive at wherever, wherever turned out to be the Red Lion at Rothwell kettering. Michele Hale was there on Friday the 6th of September and met some dear friends. A massive thank you to Topcon Building who leant there welfare van to us to make the whole journey possible. Thanks to the Red Lion to for a great buffet and warm reception
