Story
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.
Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice. Both my parents have been affected by dementia. My father is in a memory care facility having been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and my mother died of vascular dementia (Benson's Syndrome) in 2020. I don't want to lose my dad before his time, but more importantly I don't want him to lose himself. We can make a difference with funding of research to better understand the pathways of this disease and intervene in it's progress.
This year I am doing two cycling challenges to raise money for Alzheimers Society.
1. May 16th to 19th - The Southern Divide. A 670km unsupported ride on and off road across the widest part of England west to east from Land’s End in Cornwall to Rochester in Kent. The goal - to complete this in 88 hours. COMPLETED - Time 84 hours.

2. September 7th to 15th (9 days) - I have entered in Ride Across Britain. A 1580km supported ride on road from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats in Scotland. The length of the United Kingdom south to north in 9 days. COMPLETED - 84 hrs 38 min on the bike

I have set myself these challenges to help overcome the larger, enveloping challenge of dementia. Please support me by donating here to Alzheimers Society
7th August 2024 update - sadly Dad passed away on the 3rd August. He demonstrated the adventures in life to me as a boy and young man. He was not without his mistakes in life but he lived his life energetically. Cycling across a country is a fitting way to ponder his life.
