Harrogate to Paris by bike for Open Arms Malawi - 600km in 6 days · 26 July 2024
On the 26th July, the day the 2024 Olympics starts, fourteen intrepid riders aged from 16 to 55 will set-off from Harrogate in Yorkshire to ride all the way to Paris; 6 days in the saddle and a total of 600km. The basic route is Harrogate to Hull; overnight ferry to Rotterdam; Rotterdam to Middelburg in the Netherlands; Middelburg to Oudernaade in Belgium; Oudernaade to Arras in northern France; Arras to Compiegne and Compiegne to Paris. This is a self-funded trip and all being well we will be in Paris to see the bike road races featuring Harrogate’s Lizzie Deignan.
We are raising money for Open Arms Malawi which is a wonderful charity that provides love, shelter, medical and nutritional care to orphaned, abandoned and at-risk babies helping them survive their infancy and supports their return home to their extended families wherever possible. The extensive outreach programme supports hundreds of families in the community with advice, essentials and help in becoming self-sufficient. Open Arms Malawi also supports nine nursery schools in rural communities, providing hundreds of children with an early years’ education and a daily hot nutritious meal, which helps prevent malnutrition and gives children the foundations for learning to set them up for success at school.
Funding for many third world charities is difficult but Open Arms Malawi is making an impact and they are passionate about keeping families together and giving children the chance to grow up healthy in a loving family home.
