Story

Two Runners, 150 Miles and One Big Cause

Curtis Young and Steve Lampier are preparing to take on Cornwall’s toughest winter endurance challenges — and this time, they have more than personal targets driving them on.

For Steve, the Arc of Attrition 100 is unfinished business. Having battled his way through the infamous 100-mile Cornish coastal race earlier this year, finishing in 28 hours and 30 minutes, the former professional cyclist is heading back for another crack at the course. This time, however, there is a very clear target sub 24 hours! The Arc is a relentless test of endurance, with 100 miles of rugged coastline, brutal climbs, darkness and whatever the Cornish winter can throw at the runners. Steve now knows exactly what awaits him, and he will be hoping that experience, combined with 21 weeks of preparation, can turn his first attempt into a sub-24-hour performance.

Assistant manager Curtis Young, will be taking on the 50-mile Arc for the first time, doing it as a personal challenge in the year of his 50th birthday! Curt who has a background in trail running, is no stranger to long days on challenging terrain, but the Arc represents a completely different proposition.

Together, the pair will be tackling 150 miles of Cornish coastline, but their biggest motivation will come away from the trail. Steve and Curtis are raising money for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, supporting Bristol Children’s Hospital. From the first step to the final finish line, every mile will be about more than simply beating the clock. For Steve, it is a second chance to conquer the 100-mile challenge; for Curtis, a landmark birthday challenge; and for both, an opportunity to raise vital funds for children and families who need it most. The clock will be ticking, the weather may be brutal, but the cause will be worth every mile.
