Story

After walking to Blackpool for the game in 2023 and from Blackpool to Wigan last year, Danielle has signed us both up to do the Joseph's Goal walk again. This year the fixtures have thrown up a different game and we are aiming to walk from Wrexham to Wigan starting on the 11 April and getting to the Brick Community stadium in time for kick off on the 12th. In total this is 45.5 miles with the first day covering 29 miles. Just to make day 2 a bit more challenging the TV bosses have brought kick off forward to 1230.

I have to say I am not looking forward to this one, I am now in my 7th decade but my knees feel like they are a lot older. Ten hours of walking in one day is bad enough but then having to get up early to do another 16 miles before midday doesn't sound like the best idea.

This will also be the biggest physical challenge Danielle has undertaken to date and make no bones about it this isn't going to be easy for either of us.

I appreciate times are hard for everybody but this is a worthy cause Joseph's Goal is a charity funding research to find a cure for NKH (Non-Ketonic Hyperglycinaemia), a rare genetic condition that affects one in 60,000 new-borns.

As you may be aware Danielle has Down's syndrome, and there are about 800 babies a year born with Down's syndrome in the UK and roughly 40000 people living in the UK have DS.

In comparison NKH is so rare and so serious a condition that less than 500 children in the world are living with it.
