Steve's fundraiser for Yorkshire Cancer Research

My father died of prostrate cancer and I feel that supporting a local charity in Yorkshire Cancer Research (YCR) will enable me to help and give back to the families that are affected by cancer.
My partner has worked on the lung screening trial funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research in Leeds and saw first hand the good work YCR do.
Cancer screening is vital as early detection and intervention improves the survival rates of a disease that was once seen as a death sentence.
The Leeds Lung Health check is just one example of Yorkshire Cancer Research funding work that will save lives across the region, while providing a blueprint for what a successful screening programme can look like on a national and global level.
I have frequently been moved by the stories of how this trial has made a difference to peoples lives.
The challenge is for me to run 100km in 24 hours and will take place on Monday 19 May 2025 in support of my chosen charity Yorkshire Cancer Research, as the Captain of Fulford Golf Club 2025.
I won’t be entirely alone, I will be joined by Guy Wills (PGA Professional at Fulford Golf Club) and my son Stevie Jon Hood.
I’ve started training in earnest and these icy dark mornings are not the best motivation if I’m honest but I will keep going and I would welcome your support in the form of a donation, big or small to YCR - honestly every penny counts!
In addition for you Golfers out there I will be hosting my Captains charity golf day on Wednesday 21 May 2025, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Yorkshire Cancer Research. The aim is to get 100 golfers onto Fulford golf course that day.
If you are interested in playing or can help in other way, please do get in touch with me either personally or through Fulford Golf Club.
Many thanks for reading this and for any support you can give, it means a lot.
Steve
