Story
In November 2024 I'm going to swim 3.8km, bike 180km and run 42.2km. Please support me to reach my target by donating to my fundraiser. The start of my challenge is on the tenth anniversary of the passing of a very close friend of mine. Darren took his own life thinking that no-one loved him; at his funeral it was standing room only.
I volunteer for a men's mental health charity called Mentell, a charity dedicated to providing safe spaces where men can talk, listen, and support each other. I help to facilitate online groups (we call them circles) that can create real change for men struggling with their mental health.
I'm fundraising as part of the Mentell One Step campaign. My personal challenge is to swim, bike and run the Iron Man triathlon distances but I'm going to need a little longer to complete them than the 17 hours allowed the superfit athletes that compete in these events.
One of the ways that your donation will help is by supporting men to take that HUGE step into attending their first Mentell circle. One out of five men join a circle after registering on the website. The registration form includes an optional consent to receive a phone call.
When they take that call, they not only find out more about Mentell, they experience being listened to empathically and without judgement. When contacted in this way the proportion of men attending their first circle goes from 20% to 50%. Your donation will help us to make more calls.
Big change starts with One Step, and together we’re stepping up to support men who need it most.
