In May 2023, Maria, my wife, strength and stay received the diagnosis that she had breast cancer. This came after many months of conflicting information and concerns over her breast health.

Following further checks we were told their was a second primary cancer to the other breast too. Both of these diagnosis's required chemotherapy and then a double mastectomy to remove the tumours in full.

After months of a heart-breaking, but an essential journey of Maria battling through chemotherapy and undergoing reconstruction surgery, we visited the Consultant in anticipation of Maria's pathology results. We hoped and expected these would be clear and Maria would then be cancer free. Unfortunately it was not the news we were hoping for. Maria's results showed the cancer was now in her lymph nodes and further surgery was required to remove these.

As I write this, Maria is preparing to undergo surgery next week, again hoping this will end the trauma of this cruel and non-discriminatory disease.

At the end of May Maria, Tom and I received the news we had all been hoping for, Maria was finally cancer free and was able to ring the bell on the ward. Maria will require many preventative measures through check ups and medication, but we are all absolutely elated.

Funding is still very precious to Maria and the HER charity so any donation at all would be hugely appreciated and go to a fabulous cause.
