RSBC believe every blind child and their family should have the skills and confidence they need to live their life without limits. We work with blind children and young people and their families to develop the skills they need to overcome the barriers to realising their hopes, dreams and ambitions.

Story

On Saturday, 12th September 2026, I am embarking on a journey up Ben Nevis in support of Scope Eyecare and Healthcare's Charity of Choice, the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC).

Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland, the United Kingdom and the British Isles. It stands at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Highland region of Lochaber, close to the town of Fort William. I anticipate the hike will take 6–8 hours to complete.

As if one challenge wasn't enough, I will also be taking on the Dublin Marathon later in the year. Together, these challenges will push me both physically and mentally, while giving me the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for a charity that is closely aligned with Scope's purpose and commitment to making a difference.

Working for Scope has given me the opportunity to support causes that reflect our purpose: **"Inspiring each other to make a difference. Deepening our legacy. What we do matters."** I am proud to be raising funds for one of Scope's Charities of Choice, the Royal Society for Blind Children (RSBC). Through the Charities of Choice programme, Scope is committed to supporting children with vision loss and their families, helping to make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.

By taking on both challenges, I am aiming to raise a minimum of £1000 for RSBC, the leading national charity in the UK for blind and partially sighted children and young people, and their families. From diagnosis through to early adulthood, RSBC supports children and families however they can. Every child is unique, and every family's journey is different.

I am taking on these challenges as an opportunity to push myself physically while raising essential funds for a special charity. I hope that by taking on Ben Nevis and the Dublin Marathon, I can help make a meaningful difference to children and young people living with sight loss and their families.

I believe no child in the UK should grow up to be poor or lonely just because they are blind. However 90% of those who lose their sight in youth won’t work for more than six months in their lives and most will never have someone to share their life with.

By donating today you can help make sure every single blind child has the self-belief and skills to fulfil the potential we know they’ve got.
