Hi All

Having retired in May 2023 I was looking for something to give me a challenge, work toward and help me celebrate my 60th year.

Having had no real sailing experience I saw an opportunity with the bi-annual Clipper Round The World Yacht Race, (youtube link in below text) which has its next race start on 31st Aug 2025 from Portsmouth, where I was born, educated and worked throughout my career.

During the past 18 months I have completed 4 levels of training and I will be one of circa 20 crew for the yacht named Qingdao.

I will be completing Leg 1 which has 2 races, Portsmouth to Puerto Sherry in Spain, then from there to Punta del Este in Uruguay where after 5-6 weeks of racing across the Atlantic I will leave the yacht.

The 10 yachts and race will then carry on around the rest of world for another 10 months over a further 7 legs. In June 2026, I will rejoin Team Qingdao for the final leg for the last 2 races, from Washington DC to Oban in Scotland, and then Oban back to Portsmouth for the race finish in July 2026

The race will be a real challenge for me mentally and physically and I've been very fortunate in life to have a choice to do this at 60yrs. Unfortunately throughout the world there still remains 100's thousands of children that do not have any choice, deal with far worse challenges every day and every year just to survive, I'm therefore pleased UNICEF have remained the chosen charity for this Clipper Round The World Race.
