Support My Solo Cycle Ride: Lands End to John O’Groats
Raising Funds for SSYI, Empowering Local Youth
About My Challenge
A long-held ambition of mine is to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats and retirement has presented the perfect opportunity to tick it off the list. The ride covers over 1,000 miles from the southernmost tip of England to the northernmost point of Scotland, it’s a journey that tests both physical and mental limits as well as a fabulous opportunity to see the many beautiful areas of the UK. This challenge is a great chance for me to push personal boundaries and have a great adventure and I thought it would also be a chance to promote an organisation that makes a lasting impact in my local community.
Who Am I Supporting?
I am raising funds for SSYI, a local charity that provides support for young people, community facilities, clubs and activities in the Shelford's, Stapleford, Sawston and Duxford - villages in South Cambridgeshire. SSYI does excellent work in promoting the physical, mental, educational, social and spiritual welfare of young people in the villages.
Why This Matters
The idea of cycling solo from one end of Britain to the other isn’t just about the thrill of the ride. It’s about giving back to the community and ensuring our youth have the resources and support they need to thrive. SSYI’s initiatives make a tangible difference, offering help where it’s needed most. Through this fundraising, with your help, hopefully every mile I cycle will contribute to empowering our youth to reach their full potential.

The Journey
I start pedalling on Tuesday 24th June 2025 and finish twelve days later having completed 1028 miles at an average of 84 miles a day and I will have climbed almost two Everests worth of hills!
I will be unsupported on the ride, mending my own punctures and staying in BnBs. The route I’m following is heavily based on the Cycling UK Bed and Breakfast route.

Thank You
Thank you for supporting this endeavour. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of young people and help SSYI continue its excellent work.
