Our brilliant team of runners coming together to take on the iconic Hackney Half to help us be there for the people of East London - through every high, and every low.

Story

In April 2025, I did something I never thought I would do — I ran the Brighton Marathon in honour of my dad, who passed away in May 2024.

Just two weeks later, I was diagnosed with AML leukaemia. My world was turned upside down, and I suddenly found myself fighting for my life, with a prognosis that was not very encouraging.

The care I received at Bart’s was second to none. Over the following months, I went through four rounds of chemotherapy, each involving around a month in hospital. Throughout that time, Bart’s didn’t just support me medically — they supported my family and my wellbeing, and consistently went above and beyond in every sense.

I’m now in remission and still on maintenance chemotherapy. Together, Steve and I are running the Hackney Half Marathon to raise money for Bart’s Charity — to give something back to the hospital that cared for me, and to show that even after AML, it’s possible to keep moving forward.

This run is about more than just the two of us. Many people with AML are not as fortunate as I have been. I was able to benefit from targeted gene therapy, which allowed me to return to a normal life — but many genetic mutations still don’t have effective treatments available. Through continued research and innovation, supported by Bart’s
