Story
I will be taking part in the NWAA Ride Out - Base to Base on Sunday, 27th April 2025 ! This exciting event will start from Blackpool Airport Airbase, travelling the long way round to Manchester Barton Aerodrome Airbase in Eccles/ Irlam.
I will be taking part in this ride-out with fellow motorcyclists to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance Charity. They are not part of the NHS and don't receive any government funding. They rely entirely on people donating to help them to raise money to stay operational.
I have been riding motorcycles for a little over 50 years, largely for commuting, but I've also taken part in various rides for charities, or just for fun on the weekends, or with groups of others.
A little over 9 years ago I had a motorcycle accident that very nearly caused the loss of my right leg, I was transferred to Leighton Hospital and patched up, then transferred to Royal Stoke UHNM for surgery in their Major Trauma Unit. Due to a series of serious deep bone infections I've ended up having about 11 operations, nobody is quite sure, the hospital records show me having had 11 general anaesthetics before my last operation, so that would make it a total of 12 !?
My last operation at the end of Oct 2024 meant I was off work until 4 Jan 2025, when I started back working from home, on a phased return plan working entirely from home. I am now just starting to go back into the office, driving and riding my bike, it's still hard work, but taking part in this event gives me something to aim for, as well as raising vital funding to keep them operational.
As we start our adventure from the NWAA Blackpool Base, we'll make our way to our final destination, Barton Aerodrome passing through picturesque towns and countryside.
Just to clarify, I am taking part in this ride as part of my rehabilitation, I have not directly used their services, but I would like to think that if I, or any of my family and friends need them, they would still be there
