I’m running this half marathon for Twins Trust, a charity that means a huge amount to me and my family.

This will be the fourth event I’ve taken on to support Twins Trust because I know first-hand just how important the charity’s work is. As a dad of 12-year-old twins, I know how tough having two babies at the same time can be and the pressure it can put on the whole family. Twins Trust has supported us over the years, just as it has thousands of other families with twins, triplets or more.

My wife has worked for Twins Trust since our girls were one, so we’ve seen both sides of the charity’s work. We were lucky to have fantastic support from our own family and friends as we adapted to life with twins, but we know that isn’t the case for everyone.

Services such as their In Home Support, which provides practical help to families who are struggling, can be a real lifeline. The charity also provides a helpline and other vital support for families throughout their journey.

There is also specialist bereavement support for families who sadly don’t get to bring all of their babies home. This is something that feels particularly close to us, as one of our twins was in distress during the birth and we came frighteningly close to experiencing that ourselves.

Twins Trust understands the unique challenges families with multiples can face and offers support from the moment you find out you’re expecting more than one baby, through birth and as your children grow. That’s why I’ve chosen to run for them again.

I haven’t run a half marathon for quite a few years, so getting back into training has definitely been a challenge! But with every step, I know it’s worth it.

Once I cross the finish line, I’ll have completed my own quartet of runs for Twins Trust: a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon.
