Story

In September 2020, Abbie was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was found after an MRI scan carried out as part of investigations for epilepsy. The tumour was benign (non‑cancerous), and she had surgery to remove a small part of it. Since then, her scans have shown no regrowth, and her epilepsy – which is caused by the tumour – is now well managed.

Since her diagnosis, Abbie has blossomed. She is thriving at school and is due to start Year 9 in September 2026.

A big part of Abbie’s journey has been the support she’s received from the NUH Youth Service at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. Since she started going to youth club, she has been so well supported and encouraged to be more independent. She’s had some amazing experiences, including trips to Notts County and Whitby with the group.

The NUH Youth Service relies 100% on donations to keep the youth club going. By supporting this abseil, you’re helping to make sure that young people like Abbie can continue to benefit from these life‑changing opportunities.

In September 2026, Abbie will be taking part in The Big QMC Abseil, abseiling down the side of the Queen’s Medical Centre – the very hospital that has cared for her since her diagnosis. She will be jumping in tandem, supported by her dad, Steve, as they take on this challenge together.

Every donation, big or small, means so much to Abbie and to the youth club. Thank you for supporting our tandem abseil and helping to keep the NUH Youth Service going for future patients.
