Cycle for SSVLB ( Berwick-upon-tweed to SSVLB)

Steven Westy is raising money for South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade

Bike ride · 26 May 2026

Since 1866, South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) have provided a Search and Rescue capability to the coastline of South Tyneside and further. In support of HMCG we provide a search, rope rescue and water rescue team, made up entirely of volunteers, saving lives on the cliffs and coast.

Story

On the 26th May, Brigade members Tom Fennelly, Steven West, Steven Godwin, Brandon Evitt and Alan Tate-Clarkson will be cycling from Berwick-upon-Tweed to the SSVLB Watch House in South Shields. With team safety as a top priority the event will be supported by one of our friends of SSVLB Una Fennelly who will be following us in a support vehicle.

The team intends to visit each coast rescue team along the route including Holy Island, Seahouses, Amble, Newbiggin, Blyth and TVLB. Also along the way we are hoping to visit our old friends at RAF Boulmer.

This year marks a major milestone, as the Brigade celebrates its 160th anniversary – recognising 160 years of continuous commitment, and lifesaving service along our coastline.

Through this challenge, the team aims to raise awareness and support for the vital work the Brigade continues to carry out, often in the most demanding conditions.

Any support or donations would be greatly appreciated and will help ensure the Brigade can continue its important work for future generations.

Thank you for your support!
