Cycling over 200km in one day from Norwich to London · 8 September 2023

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

I have only had one Nan in my life, she was Swiss and was an incredible person. She lived to be 105, a remarkable achievement, especially when you consider that a good part of her later years were taken from her, and all of us, by dementia.

I'm doing this ride for her. I've never ridden anywhere close to 200km or above in one day so this will be a big challenge. Adding to that distance is the fact that due to ill health, I've done very little riding or exercise this year. In fact, I've ridden my road bike just once since July 2022!

So, I will be channelling my Nan's fighting spirit, and her words will be ringing in my ears, "nid ufgä" which is Swiss for 'never give up'!

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.

Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Thank you.
