Story

Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page for Headway Southampton! They are a charity that offers support, advice and rehabilitation services to adults with an acquired brain injury. I suffered from a head injury myself several years ago and subsequently built a close bond with Headway.

In 2017 I was cycling across America with my close friend from school, Rob Silk. We started our journey in Jacksonville, Florida, and we were travelling many miles up to San Diego. A pickup truck crashed into me near Phoenix in Arizona. When I hit the ground I went into a coma and suffered a fractured skull, and many bones were fractured and broken throughout my spine, neck, left arm and pelvis. I was flown in a helicopter to Scottsdale Hospital’s ICU where they miraculously saved my life. . ‘Miracle’ became a word I can relate to! After 2 weeks I was flown back to my hometown Southampton, and cared for over 3 months in Southampton General Hospital, progressing in my rehabilitation from the ICU to the Neuro Ward, and then I was discharged from the Snowdon Neuro Rehabilitation Centre. My head injury damaged my Amygdala, and as a result I regularly feel anxious. I Catastrophise a lot (a 1/10 scale problem becomes a 20/10 problem, that I must fix now!!!). I often have tears; however I cry when I am happy as well! My partner Deepthi and our young daughter Indy give me endless joy :)

I also have a damaged Olfactory Bulb, resulting in me no longer having a sense of smell. I can now eat incredibly hot chilies though - a powerful new ability!

I have endless love and gratitude to the many, many doctors and nurses, and my incredible family and friends that saved me and helped me to recover and continue living a fulfilling happy life!

In 2019, two years after my accident, I became a volunteer at Headway Southampton. At that point in time I hadn’t realised that my brain had been so negatively affected through my head injury. My awareness and adaptation progresses every day (my 'evolution', if I may be so bold!). I experienced how vital Headway Southampton’s services are to people that suffer from brain injuries. Each day is easier to tackle with Headway by your side, and service users lead a happier, more fulfilling life. Headway needs our support to continually help those in need!

On Saturday 19th July 2025 there was a 7-a-side football match between myself and my brother Chris's friends and family, including some of Romsey's Walk Football team, at Ganger Farm Sports Park in Romsey, Hampshire (see the attached photos!)

It was a very close match! Stevie's Team 4 - 2 Chris's Team!

For Stevie's Team, Walker scored a hat trick, Stelios rifled one in and Splads got an assist to an assist!

Harry netted two strikes fore Chris's Team!

It was a fantastic day, and we raised a huge amount for Headway Southampton!

This Just Giving Donations page will be open until 1st September 2025. Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Myself and Headway Southampton’s carers, support workers and service users will be hugely grateful for any donations that you make.

Thank you for your time and donations!
