Rhiannon & Brutus are raising the roof!

Rhiannon Llewellyn is raising money for St Margaret's, Putney

Hever Castle Multisport · 27 September 2025 to 28 September 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

St Margaret’s is a haven of peace in bustling Putney. A space to reflect and meet God. To connect with others, celebrate life and find support when we need it most. To grow strong bonds with our local community and make positive change. Our services and music are rooted in the traditions of the Church of England. We want church to be inclusive, thought-provoking and fun, and we strive to make God’s Word relevant and connected to everyday life. Children fully participate in Sunday Mornings, with weekly Sunday School and regular all-age services to energise and encourage their spiritual growth. Whether you want to feel part of something bigger or need a quiet moment to yourself, there’s a warm welcome waiting for you, here at the heart of your community.

Story

Churches and their pesky rooves, amiright?

St Margaret's church roof needs an upgrade. Whilst our parish church might not have the clout of being a listed building it has done the following in recent years:

- FREE playgroup (attended by up to 100 people ever week)

- FREE Lunch on the Lane with homemade food where all are welcome every week

- Spent a season as a Glassdoor shelter for those affected by homelessness

- Peaceful and reflective 'Quiet Days' led by our wonderful poet and church reader in residence

- Held fundraising Elvis balls and pew auctions

- Community operas with sold out audiences

- Hundreds of FREE weekly concerts with fantastic musicians

- A full symphony orchestra accompanying the wonderful Beatrice Nicholas for Rachmaninov's 2nd piano concerto

- Church services every Wednesday, twice on a Sunday plus evening prayer

- Evensongs, rememberance services, epiphany and advent carol services

- Hymns & Pimms events.

- All Hallows Eve parties, festive discos and pancake races for the children

- Dog blessings and dancing pantomime camels

- Funerals and memorials for loved ones who have passed on

- Beautiful weddings with three-legged dogs, Harry Potter themes and so much love

- A place of peace and prayer for those looking for a quiet moment in a busy world

- Bible studies, prayer groups, coffee mornings...

- The home of Thames Philharmonic Choir who rehearse once or twice each week

- Regular recording sessions with London Recording Days for opera singers

- The beehive nursery school's adorable nativity plays, as well as our own

- The Putney Youth Choir rehearse here every week

- Productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Matilda Jr.

- Organised and stored hundreds of donations to the Rackets Cubed Christmas boxes

- Hosted Christmas fairs and Jingle and Mingle events

- Our wonderful local community choir - Dover House Singers concerts

- Christmas Carol services with standing room only and Christingles where children can't resist eating all the sweeties at the start of the service.

Church rooves might not be that interesting to most, but they're totally necessary to house this wonderful space which is not only integral to those who workshop here, but so many people from our local community and the prayer life of those who worship here.

Rhiannon and Brutus will be participating in the Hever Castle triathlon on 27th of September this year. Rhiannon isn't sure how to cycle and Brutus isn't sure how to swim, so it's going to be an intense few months of training to get us up to scratch.
