Story
We are a small Coptic Orthodox community in East London, UK, faithfully serving our congregation since becoming a registered charity in 1996. For many years, we have prayed and worked towards one goal: securing a permanent church home for our community.
St Mary and St George Coptic Orthodox Church is part of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of London under the auspices of Archbishop Angaelos.
Despite several serious attempts to purchase a church building in the past, we were outbid each time at the final stage. Each setback was difficult, yet we continued to trust in God’s providence.
For the past twelve years, we have been hiring the same church building. Over this time, it has become far more than a rented space. It is where our children were baptised, weddings were celebrated, prayers were lifted daily, and our community has grown together in faith. It has become our spiritual home.
We have now been informed by the owner that unless we submit an offer to purchase the building, it will be placed on the open market. If this happens, likely, we will once again be outbid — and we risk losing the church that has served as the heart of our worship and community life for over a decade. We have now put forward an offer of 1.5M. We are therefore reaching out in humility and hope.
Your support, whether through a one-off donation or a regular contribution, will help us secure a permanent home for future generations. Together, we can preserve this sacred space and ensure that our church continues to serve as a beacon of faith, prayer, and community in East London.
