St Matthews's fundraiser for an Our Lady of Walsingham Statue for The Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Gweru

St Matthews Church is raising money for St Matthew's Church Sheffield
“Lent”
St Matthew's is the parish church at the heart of Sheffield City Centre. Through our prayer, service and witness we seek to serve all those who live, work, party and pass through the city. We aim to do so through the love of Jesus Christ.

Story

This Lent we are raising funds for a statue of Our Lady of Walsingham for The Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Gweru for whom we raised funds last year for a Statue of St Benedict. Religious life is thriving in Zimbabwe but they don't have the easy access to the devotional items and statues we enjoy.

The Holy Spirit Monastery is a Religious Community following the traditional Rule of St Benedict. It was founded on 16 September 2017 by a group of nuns and friars who made a decision to move away from the CZM. The HSM was inaugurated in September 2017 by Bishop Ishmael Mukwanda of the Diocese of Central Zimbabwe (now retired). The Religious Community has a constitution and a Rule of life and observes the vows of Obedience, Stability and Conversion of Life. It has a visitor, the Rt Rev Ignatios Makumbe who is the current serving Bishop of Central Zimbabwe.
