Stronger than the Silence: Ironman Leeds supporting CALM

Nicholas Finch is raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)

IRONMAN LEEDS · 16 August 2026

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

In 2020, as a male I suffered with depression and didn't realise how badly it affected me at the time.

Like many men, I hid how I felt, claiming I didn't want to burden anyone.

I found myself seeking therapy which surprisingly gave me an immense free feeling and it helped me to speak out about my problems at the time.

Fortunately I was able to rise above this dark period, but for many men under the age of 50, suicide is the leading cause of death.

For men that are suffering with dark thoughts and no one to speak about it, this is what CALM does.

They directly work with providing support to anyone that needs help.

I am raising £1,000 in the hopes I can provide further support to those in my life that may not want to speak up about how they feel.

I will do this by racing my first ever Full Distance 140 IRONMAN LEEDS this August 16th, 2026.

A race that involves a 2.4mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile marathon all in 1 go.

I do these challenges as a direct result of that depression I felt back in 2020. They provided me purpose & direction that I previously had lost.

Ever since I have managed to grow & succeed in the fitness industry as a Personal Trainer of 15 years, and now i'm able to give back from a place of CALM.
