Story

Hi folks, thank you for taking the time to drop by my JustGiving page.

I am running the adidas Manchester Marathon on April 14th to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my Dad who passed away on 7th September 2023.

My dad went on holiday to Fuerteventura with my sister, brother-in-law & nephews where he slipped at the side of the pool and incurred a bleed on the brain. He then got an air ambulance helicopter to Gran Canaria so he could be in a more advanced hospital where he underwent 6 hours of brain surgery to remove the bleed and repair the haematoma.

All of this was a success and doctors were starting to see signs of progress which we were absolutely buzzing with.

Unfortunately, the following week in the middle of the night I got the dreaded phone call to say my dad hadn't made it through the night and had suffered a massive heart attack.

When I got to the hospital, my dad's nurse Carmen explained this was due to the fact his heart was having to work so much harder as he was still fighting the injury to the head.

I wanted to be with him all the way home so on 14th September, I was able to fly home with my Dad to Manchester on the repatriation flight before being driven up to Glasgow.

I've always wanted to tick a Marathon off the bucket-list and this one felt right to do since it was Manchester we flew back to (which wasn't out of choice).

I'd like to raise money for the British Heart Foundation as with fundraising money they can continue to fund the research in to better heart care.

The cost of 1 defibrillator can range from £800 to over £2000 so I thought if I can raise enough to buy 1 defibrillator that could save a life in the future then that would be incredible.

A full marathon will be a challenge for me so I will update the JustGiving page with my training progress.

Thank you for taking the time to read and hope you can spare a few quid to donate to an outstanding charity.
