Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.

When I retired in 2022, I carried with me a desire to give back through voluntary work. After much thought, I chose to support Alzheimer Scotland, a cause close to my heart as Alzheimer's disease affects so many lives—now impacting 1 in every 2 people.

In 2023, I began volunteering with Alzheimer Scotland and have found deep fulfilment in playing a small part in supporting those affected by this challenging condition. Inspired by this experience, at the start of 2025, I set out on a personal journey—to find and complete a long-distance solo trek across Europe. While researching, I discovered the Camino de Santiago. It presented not only an exciting challenge but also an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer Scotland.

Initially considering the famous Camino Frances route of 500 miles, I chose the Portuguese route instead—just under 200 miles—as a manageable yet meaningful challenge. I completed this trek over 2 weeks and was humbled to raise over £3,000 through generous donations from family and friends.

Now, looking ahead I am preparing for an even greater challenge: on the 11th May I start walking the full Camino Frances route from St Jean Pied de Port in France across the Pyrenees mountains and onward to Santiago in Spain—a journey of almost 500 miles, without rest days, aiming to complete in just over five weeks. Though doubts arise about the physical and mental demands, my commitment remains strong because this trek is more than a personal goal; it is a chance to continue raising vital awareness and much needed funds for Alzheimer Scotland.

I am aiming to raise £3,000 for this important cause. Your support can make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's disease. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast, and secure—your details are safe and your contribution goes directly to Alzheimer Scotland without delay or extra cost.

Please consider joining me on this journey by making a donation today. Together we can create hope and make a meaningful impact against Alzheimer's disease. Thank you sincerely for your kindness and generosity.
