At 1900 on Tuesday 16th June in the Bishopsgate Police Station Canteen, I will be aiming to ride continuously for 24 hours on a stationary cycle (Watt Bike) to raise funds the City of London Police Charity for Children. The only time I am allowed to stop is for short comfort breaks when someone can jump in for me for a short time.

As you will see from the below report the charity has been a huge support to me and Richard Cloudesley SEN School who I have worked with over the past 20 years. This is now my opportunity to give something back! Most of you know that going for a long cycle is something I do most weekends, so I wanted a different challenge.

Established in 1972, the City of London Police Charity for Children is dedicated to supporting children and young people with a close connection to the City of London Police, who are experiencing illness, crisis, disadvantage, hardship, or disability. The funding we provide is directed entirely towards the benefit of young people, and your donations enable us to continue delivering a comprehensive range of essential support services to our primary beneficiaries - children and young people up to the age of eighteen, with a direct or indirect connection to our City of London Police organisation.

We have provided funding for several types of therapeutic interventions, including physiotherapy, speech, and language therapy. We have funded bespoke specialist equipment, activity-based events, such as SEN activity days, and offer respite opportunities for families. We have also assisted with funding toward urgent medical treatments, counselling sessions, and medical assessments, as well as educational assistance such as tutoring with assistance tailored to meet a diverse range of individual and often complex needs.

Your generosity makes a profound difference to lives of the children and young people we help. We are sincerely grateful for your support of this amazing fundraising event, which then enables us to make a real and lasting impact for those who need it most.

Richard Cloudesley SEN:

The City of London Police Charity for Children has supported me in all the work I have done with school for the past 20 years and continue to do so! The most recent specially adapted equipment purchased for the school in 2023. The charity gave £5000 towards this machine that helps students with movement for muscles that do not get the exercise they need. It helps with digestion and with other core movement to assist in a healthier lifestyle. It was the final £5000 towards the £30,000 needed!

The first specially adapted bike the charity purchased for the school after starting the cycle programme in 2006. Before then we hired cycles to do the training. By 2008 we were able to purchase the school their own cycles.

As you can see this is my opportunity to help the charity to raise awareness and funds for such an amazing charity!
