Why
In October 2021, my utterly incredible missus Claire was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. After months and months of operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy she beat the living daylights out of that filthy disease and is now on the road to a full recovery. YES! Fuck you Cancer.
Cancer is the absolutely devastating news that no one wants to get. Things can - and did - turn dark quite quickly. But when everything felt out of our control and uncertain, Macmillan were a brilliant beacon of light at the end of what seemed like an endless tunnel. They were always there to help with anything, from emotional support to financial guidance, advice about employment rights, and a million other things we didn't have the capacity to think about because all we could think about was the bloody cancer.
It takes a huge support network to help you get through such a terrible time, and along with our brilliant family and friends, and an army of brilliant health care professionals, Macmillan were a core part of that network. It would've been so, so much harder without them by our side every step of the way.
What
Claire's big thing is running. She runs. All the time. Wherever we go. She loves it. I do not. We will be running the Hackney Half Marathon together, and I will be trying to raise as much money as I can for the lovely people at Macmillan so they can keep on doing what they do for people like us. It's our first half marathon and while Claire is very excited - and exceptionally badass for running a half marathon on all the medication she is on - I am not. So please dig as deep as you can and sponsor us.
Love Stuart, Claire and Lyra
