Story
Some of you may be aware of my back story, having a major life-threatening brain injury 40 years ago, when I was 15, which left me paralysed on my right side. Then the challenge was to learn to walk, talk and write again, and tie a shoelace with one hand.
I have come a long way since those dark days; I would not have achieved this without the support of my friends and family, but the journey has been relentless and difficult at times. This may be a surprise to those who know me well, as my positivity is a good disguise to overcome the reasons "why me".
I am also conscious that this has given me a great insight into the basic issues of adapting to a disability, but also the increased awareness of how difficult life is for the disabled and the less fortunate. As well as the encouragement to overcome a challenge and not to give up, despite whatever life throws at you.
This is the reason why I support the CiaO Foundation, "Challenge Is An Opportunity".
On Sunday 4th October, I will be joining the CiaO Foundation trustees, supporters, grant recipients and athletes for our Sponsored Walk & Wheelchair Challenge. Walkers will enjoy routes through the beautiful countryside around Henley-on-Thames, while wheelchair athletes and previous grant recipients will take on their own challenge at the Little Marlow athletics track.
This year, a significant proportion of the funds raised will support the Weir Archer Academy, where disabled athletes receive expert coaching and training to help them reach their full potential.
As The CiaO Foundation marks ten years of supporting individuals facing serious challenges, we remain committed to helping people overcome them and to achieve their ambitions. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us continue that mission.
If you can, please sponsor me; I would be incredibly grateful. Your support will help us continue changing lives for many years to come.
Thank you.
