Against Breast Cancer are working to prevent secondary breast cancer by funding unique research into the development of new treatments, including ultimately a vaccine; improving upon current blood tests; and assessing diet and lifestyle for factors that increase the risk of secondary breast cancer.

Story

Today, Tuesday 30 May, is my dad’s 81st birthday. Last year I did a spinning all-dayer to raise money. This year, I thought I'd try running. I'm looking to run about 25 miles. It's long enough to say it's a proper run. And I'm not used to this distance, so it'll be a decent challenge. I'll also walk, cos y'know... I'll still get there if I walk a bit.

I'm doing the run on Saturday 3 June, so I can get some training in this week! And gives time to see how much we can raise. Every couple of quid you can give means a lot and totally mounts up.

From last year's page. This is still relevant: My dad was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. A health scare? A scare makes it sound like it was nothing. Many of you will know the emotions we all went through, and my dad somehow is able to make stuff like this seem so regular. He took it in his stride, fearless. He’s the kind of superman role model every son needs in their life. Luckily for me, the RVI in Newcastle were amazing with their care and compassion. It’s with thanks to them that I still have that superman role model in my life; we still have him in our lives. And he battles on every day.

My dad had surgery. Twice.

He had radiotherapy.

He came out of it with another battle scar.

He’s a survivor - a real fighter. My hero. Anyone who knows him knows he’s been through so much in recent years. He keeps going, no complaints, pushing on, always with a positive mindset.

It's impossible to articulate our gratitude to the RVI, the doctors, the nurses, and everyone who helped. A small way to help is to raise some money for Against Breast Cancer. I hope clocking up a few miles will raise a few quid for them.

Your sponsorship is really appreciated. Whatever you can do will mean a lot to me and will be an amazing ‘Happy birthday’ for my dad.

Thank you!

Stu
