Story
We’re Mike, Ben, George… and Ben (yes, there really are two of them). Between us, we make up three and a half paramedics who have decided to take on what can only be described as a stupid challenge, all in the name of a very good cause.
From 12th into 13th May 2026, we will attempt to run from Minehead Ambulance Station to every ambulance station in West Somerset — Minehead, Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater, Taunton — before finishing at Musgrove Park Hospital’s Beacon Centre. All told, it’s roughly 100km, very little sleep, and a lot of questionable life choices.
So why are we doing this?
In August last year, Mike’s mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, she has faced the fight of her life, one that no one chooses, but many are forced to endure. Throughout her treatment, the care, compassion and unwavering support provided by the staff at the Beacon Centre have been absolutely vital to her recovery.
The Beacon Centre doesn’t just support patients, it supports families, carers, and loved ones too. Many people spend months undergoing chemotherapy or standing by someone they love during the hardest period of their lives. The work this unit does for the people of Somerset is nothing short of incredible.
As paramedics, we see firsthand how vital services like this are. We also know that sometimes the only way to say “thank you” properly is to suffer a little yourself. So, for 24 hours, we’ll push our bodies to their limits to raise money and give something back to a team that gives so much, every single day.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, we’d be hugely grateful. Every penny will go towards supporting the Beacon Centre and the amazing work they do for cancer patients and their families.
Thank you for reading, thank you for donating, and thank you for supporting four idiots doing something very hard for something very important. 💛
Love Musgrove is the Official Charity of Musgrove Park Hospital. Each year the Hospital treats over 450,000 patients through its emergency department, on its wards and through its outpatient services. Although the Hospital is funded by the NHS, it is vital that we raise additional funds to improve our services, purchase new equipment and continue to provide a positive environment for both patients and their families. Donations made in support of Love Musgrove have a real and tangible impact on the people of Somerset and beyond!
