I am running the London marathon this year for the Christie hospital in Manchester where I remain a patient for active monitoring every 6 months. The marathon weekend also represents 3 years since life saving surgery to remove most of my right lung, after being diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer.

The journey of the last 3 years has been tough to say the least; a rollercoaster ride of emotions, despair, determination, fatigue, fight, anger & hope. This will be my 20th (and last) marathon; my 6th London. It’s the marathon that I’d written off as impossible.

It’ll be different this time - the finish time will be whatever the finish time is. What matters is that I can give something back to the Christie who continue to look after me; that I can give hope to others who receive a lung cancer diagnosis; & that I get to share the experience with my Bestie, Linda.

My mantra for the last 3 years is unchanged: ‘Lung cancer, you picked on the wrong one!’
