Story
So where does my Osteoporosis story begin?
The discomfort in my buttocks took just three months to worsen to such an extent that I could barely get out of bed in the morning and walking even a short distance was almost impossible.
Six weeks of physiotherapy proved unhelpful, as most of the exercises I was given were the same as those I had to stop due to unbearable pain. An MRI revealed the harsh reality: a diagnosis of spinal fractures, stenosis, and osteoporosis. This news was a devastating blow, abruptly ending my ability to play tennis the sport that has been a major part of my life.
Despite undergoing a steroid epidural, relief has been elusive, and now I face the prospect of major back surgery—an option fraught with risks. My heart aches not only for myself but for others who endure similar struggles. This is why I am committed to supporting the Royal Osteoporosis Society in their mission to find effective identification methods, new medications, treatments, and crucially, raising awareness about this condition.
Few people in the UK truly understand what osteoporosis is; even fewer grasp its profound impact on lives—robbing individuals of self-confidence, diminishing independence, and turning everyday activities into daunting challenges. Together, we can dream of a future without osteoporosis.
On Sunday 12th October 2025, I will be running a 'Tennisathon' as part of my personal challenge to raise £5,000 for this vital cause. Your support can help make this dream a reality. Join me in this fight against osteoporosis and help spread awareness so that no one else has to face these challenges alone.
