Some of you will be aware that my daughter had an accident last autumn when she broke three vertebrae in a horse fall on Exmoor. She has recovered well with no lasting significant problems, thanks in no small part to the wonderful efforts of Exmoor Search and Rescue who were called in to assist paramedics and HART in rescuing her from an inaccessible location.

I will be forever grateful to them, and I am mindful that they are entirely dependent on donations to fund their wonderful service.

I am entered to tackle the Lakeland 100 ultramarathon event in July in the Lake District, 105 miles with 22,000ft of climb and a maximum time allowed of 40 hours. The event is one of our toughest 100 mile races, and will be a massive challenge for me. The completion rate usually hovers at around 50%, and I am under no illusions!! I have worked hard throughout the winter and spring, and am now into the final build phase of preparation. Training has been severally hampered by my own foot injury sustained the day after my race entry was confirmed, but fingers crossed things will come together for the race and I will make it back to the base in Coniston.
