Sue & Mary's Story

In September 2026, we (Sue and Mary) will be doing a Race Across Europe to raise funds for the charity Prevent Breast Cancer, alongside 24 other pairs of racers. Our mission is to make our way from Amsterdam to Prague in just four days, completing exciting tasks and checkpoints along the way.

The entry fee and all race related/travel costs will be covered by us. However, as a team, we have pledged to raise £2000 for Prevent Breast Cancer before the event.

Our story ….

As many you will be aware if you know us, Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 60 and had successful, curative surgery and radiotherapy in 2024, together with ongoing hormone treatment for 10 years. As a Postmistress in the centre of a rural community Sue has never shied away from telling this story, and continues to discover and support other breast cancer warriors locally.

Mary's mother, Jo, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 through routine screening, fortunately it was detected early enough that she only required a lumpectomy. Nearly ten years on, Jo is thriving in remission. This highlights the critical importance of routine screening and early diagnosis.

Getting lumps checked saves lives and is important at any age. We'll continue to raise awareness and shout this from the rooftops!

Prevent Breast Cancer strives for breast cancer prevention and early detection; for a future free from lives lost to breast cancer and free from needing such intense and invasive breast cancer treatment. Around 1 in 7 women in the UK will get breast cancer in their lifetime and all of our lives will be touched in some way by the disease.
