Make-A-Wish UK is part of a global movement that exists to make life-changing wishes come true for the thousands of critically ill children across the UK. The power of a wish allows families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.

Story

We are at it again!!

This time we are going to Japan to run in the Tokyo Marathon for our favourite charity - Make-A-Wish!!

There have been some injuries along the way, but we are both determined to do our best and put our best foot forward to raise money for this amazing charity! We know that money is tight for everyone, but if you could make a donation, we would really appreciate it. xx Sue is also challenging herself even more by running the London Marathon (she got a 'Good For Age' place this year) and the Sydney Marathon!!

For those of you who have not heard about this charity -

Make-A-Wish® UK grant life-changing wishes for the thousands of critically ill children across the UK. Sadly, the number of wish enquiries from seriously ill children with less than a year to live is rising fast. They need help to meet this urgent demand now - before it’s too late.

For families with critically ill children, every day counts. Your support has the power to make a wish come true for a critically ill child, allowing families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.

Right now, around 63,000 children in the UK are eligible for a wish because they have a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. From the moment they are diagnosed, the simple pleasures of childhood and family life are replaced by worry, disruption, medical appointments, financial worries and isolation. They are often removed from their daily routines, enduring pain and fear instead of enjoying a carefree time ticking off milestones like riding a bike, having sleepovers and learning to swim.

Make-A-Wish empowers these children with the chance to choose a wish that is unique to them, creating hope, happiness and memories for the whole family to cherish. A wish gives them something positive to look forward to, something to enjoy and something to look back on during tough times. A Wish provides a new focus and a welcome distraction which can motivate them to engage more with their treatment. A Wish can bring joy and happiness back into the lives of these children and their families. Wishes take time and money to organise and require passion, creativity and commitment. The networks and communities of social care professionals, volunteers, partners, fundraisers, supporters, wish families, are all key to making children’s wishes become a reality.

Together we can help to create a life-changing wish for a child with a critical illness. Whether it’s starring in their own film, feeding tigers, meeting a celebrity hero or having a bedroom redesigned, each wish is varied, personal and has the child at the heart of the experience. They cannot make these life-changing experiences happen without people like you. Any donation, no matter how small will be so gratefully appreciated.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to read our story - we will regularly update our page so you can see how we are getting on!!
