Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have not been in the sea since our children were young. Being nervous of going out of my depth, I have joined the Worthing Bluetits and took my first dip in the sea on 24th July 2026 when the sea was warm and inviting.
This winter, I am taking on a wonderfully bold challenge: twenty sea‑shoulder dips before Christmas 2026. The last dip will be on Christmas eve. It’s fun, it’s freezing, and it’s all to support the Heene Bells Project.
🔔 A Peal Appeal
The bells of dear St Botolph’s, once joyful and bright,
Now creak in their cradle, not ringing quite right.
Their gudgeons are groaning, the frame’s feeling frail,
And each time we ring them, we wince at the tale.
They’ve tolled through the ages, through weddings and wakes,
Through harvests and hailstorms, through triumphs and aches.
But time takes its toll, and the tower now sighs—
It’s time for renewal, before silence replies.
We’re calling for help, from near and from far,
To fund a new frame and restore every bar.
The bells will be lighter, the tone rich and true,
And easier ringing for old hands and new.
So whether you’re local or just love the sound,
Of bells that ring out o’er the rooftops around—
Please give what you can, be it pounds or a penny,
For metal and labour don’t come for a zenny!
We promise your gift will be cherished and used,
Not frittered or lost or wrongly abused.
And when once again those bells start to chime,
You’ll know you helped echo their music through time.
