Story
This September, Sarah Gracey-Shaw, a dedicated Breast Care Nurse Specialist working within the Leeds Cancer Centre at St James’s University Hospital, will be taking on the Great North Run to raise funds for Yorkshire Cancer Community (YCC).
Every day, Sarah supports people living with and beyond breast cancer, providing expert clinical care, information, and emotional support at some of the most challenging moments in their lives. Through her role within the breast cancer team, she sees first-hand the difference that patient support, information, and community connections can make to individuals and families affected by cancer.
Now, Sarah is swapping her nursing uniform for running shoes as she trains for one of the UK’s most iconic running events. By taking on the 13.1-mile challenge, she hopes to raise vital funds for Yorkshire Cancer Community, helping us continue our work to connect people affected by cancer, amplify patient voices, reduce inequalities, and improve cancer outcomes across Yorkshire.
Sarah said:
“As a nurse, I see the impact that cancer has on individuals and families every day. Yorkshire Cancer Community provides an important platform for people to share their experiences, access support, and influence cancer services. I’m proud to be running the Great North Run to help support their work and would be grateful for any donation, no matter how small.”
Every pound raised will help YCC continue to bring together people affected by cancer, healthcare professionals, charities, and community organisations to ensure that the voices of patients and carers help shape cancer services across our region.
Please support Sarah and donate today. Together, we can make a difference for people affected by cancer across Yorkshire.
