Townships Trust was set up in 2015 to foster the development of schools and créches in the poorest township areas of Cape Town, South Africa. Its main aim is to provide deprived children, aged 2-7, with a safe place to begin their education. HMRC Charities reference number EW40545.

Story

We have chosen to send all donations to The Townships Trust whose main aim is to help pre-schools in the townships around Cape Town (where Sue worked) provide a safe environment for deprived children to begin their education. Their focus at the moment is to support Langa Moravian Educare, which looks after 120 children aged 2-7 years.

“We are in the process of improving both the physical teaching environment for the children and replacing the existing limited educational resources with all new teaching aids. We have completed the improvements to two of the three classrooms and are raising funds to start work on the third, for the youngest group.

We and the Kirstenbosch Rotary Club control all expenditure and agree priorities with the school, and we have a strong working relationship, reflected in the support we get from teachers, parents and the happy faces of the children when we visit.”

Edward Orton, CEO, The Townships Trust, Fulham.
