Story
Rennie Grove Peace Hospice in Watford is where Mum volunteered for years and also, on being diagnosed with cancer, wanted to be when she died.
To be honest, neither Andrew nor I had much knowledge of how these places worked but wow...on contacting them they wonderfully, lovingly, peacefully, seamlessly made this happen for her and for us. We were all able to stay (me, A and Samira) and be with Mum, they were so respectful and loving to her and they supported us once she had died too. We only spent 36 hours with them, which was in itself a gift, and they treated us like family friends
All I am doing is dressing as a carrot and going for a 10 mile ride which is a joy for me, nothing challenging, somewhat humiliating maybe...but fun! She would have loved it and helped with the sewing.
Dad's wish was to be at home when he died and again, that wish was granted, but the care shown by his local hospice (St Peter's) was lovely too and yet happily we did not need them. These organisations and the people that work and volunteer in them are amazing.
So I will ride around Wimbledon on 13 September in bright orange in their honour and if you would like to support this wonderful cause you will be helping other people in their moments of need. Promise to share a pic with those that donate!! The ride will be fun and is three hours, it is more about the event and the costume!! The village is fancy dress on the day, a dog competition too! It has been a part of the Wimbledon Village Stables calendar for 51 years, and it is my first time, quite a privilege. I should have done this for the Haute Route, this is simple fun compared to that!
Thank YOU x
