Yesterday, while training at the track, Derek suddenly collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. His heart stopped. He was shocked five times, and it took over 30 minutes to bring him back.

He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, completely unresponsive. For hours, we didn’t know what the outcome would be. Doctors ran every test — EKGs, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds — and cooled his body in an effort to preserve his life.

But God wasn’t done with him yet.

After what felt like an eternity, Derek opened his eyes.

His nurses and doctors all agree — this is a miracle. They said he died yesterday… and by the grace of God, he came back. There is no other explanation. God was watching over him every second and breathed life back into him.

Tomorrow, Derek will undergo heart surgery to receive an internal defibrillator — a device that will help protect him and ensure this doesn’t happen again.
